Dans le même temps, Red est contacté par le général Hager, qui lui demande de mettre au point un puissant radar pour comprendre l'origine de mystérieuses perturbations magnétiques. La situation s'explique lors de la cérémonie puisque celle-ci est interrompue par l'arrivée d'un extraterrestre, personnage argenté porté par un surf volant. Identifié comme le Surfer d'argent, celui-ci annonce en fait l'extermination des planètes qu'il visite.
