Le nouveau shérif, Kyle Williams, est chargé de mettre un terme à cette sinistre série de crimes. Alors qu'il explore le marais à la recherche d'indices, il se heurte à Frederic Schist, un homme d'affaires local, qui veut forer dans la région, espérant y trouver du pétrole. Alors que les disparitions continuent, certains habitants parlent d'une étrange créature, mi-animale mi-végétale, qui vivrait dans le marais et le protégerait de ceux qui veulent profaner la nature.
